Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998)

Cast:
Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Rani Mukherjee, Salman Khan, Farida Jalal, Anupan Kher, Johnny Lever, Reema Lagoo, Archana Puran Singh, Sana Saeed

Director : Karan Johar

Sinopsis:

It's about college student Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan) and his best friend, Anjali (Kajol), always teasing each other and pulling each other's legs.Theirs is a firm friendship that endures all manners of minor friendship mishaps. After a while, Anjali thinks she's in love with Rahul. Before she can open up her heart to him, he openly declares his love for the principal's daughter, Tina (Rani Mukerji).

Tina is everything Anjali is not. She's a classy lady, sophisticated and utterly charming and frightfully pretty. With Tina, Rahul finds an irresistible sexual attraction. With Anjali, it's more like male bonding.

In time, Tina returns Rahul's feelings towards her and they married. However, Tina died while delivering her first child, who was named Anjali (Sana Saeed). Before she died, Tina wrote eight letters to her infant. Each to be opened on her birthday in the subsequent years.

On her eighth birthday, her late mother's last letter told her that her father actually had deep feelings for the original Anjali. Her final request was for her daughter to bring Rahul and Anjali together because she believed that they would be good for each other.
However, since his wife's death, Rahul plunged deeply into his work and forget about everything else. At the same time, the other Anjali has been betrothed to another man (Salman Khan).

A chance meeting takes place between Rahul and Anjali. Sparks fly. The chemistry is still there, except that this time the electricity between the two old friends is much stronger.

The more mature Anjali is now no longer the tomboy she was. Her hair has grown and she wears sarees. Rahul battles those strange feelings surging in his heart and soul. He tries to resist but it is futile. It is afterall the tsunami of emotions.

Aku kata :

Okay, this is something outside the norm yang aku biasa buat. I just had to do it. Mungkin agak pelik sikit kot for me to review one of the most highly acclaimed Hindistan movie. Lebih pelik lagi sebab aku memang tak pernah review ataupun cerita pasal filem Hindustan movie.

But Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is an exception. Because it is a truly great movie. Mungkin aku orang yang kesepuluh ribu yang buat review pasal Kuch Kuch Hota Hai but what the heck! Ini blog aku, suka hati aku lah! Hehehehe…

Well, I am not really a big fan of Hindustan movie but my mother is. Well, at least she was before John Abraham, Bipasha Basu, Priyanka Chopra, Dino Morea, Amrita Arora (sekadar menyebut beberapa nama.). Kalau dulu, memang my mother kipas-susah-mati filem-filem Hindustan. Sampai suruhkan aku beli setiap VCD lakonan Shah Rukh dgn Kajol. Aku banyak dipengaruhi oleh mak aku yang memang cukup hantu bab filem-filem Hindustan ni.

Filem macam Bobby, Mera Naam Joker, Aag Gale Lag Ja, Sangam memang some of the most memorable movies of all time. Dalam benda ni, me and my mother shares the same sentiment. Filem Hindustan sekarang isn’t just as good as those days. In fact, it’s nothing more macam a display of beautiful and handsome face, big boobs, revealing costumes and an attempt for erotic scenes.

Anyway, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is Karan Johar’s first film directory and for a first timer, I can tell that he made the movie a hit around the region. Senang cakap it’s a film that brings tsunami of feelings and emotions.

Yang paling menarik dalam Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, personally for me, would be the songs featured in the movie. Klasik giler! Kalau dah my colleague yang berbangsa Cina pun boleh hum lagu Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and watched it like 7 times (according to her lah!), so, my conclusion would be it is accepted by everyone.

Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan has that ultra strong on-screen chemistry. Very very strong indeed. They both completes each other and their persona is quite strong. And Rani Mukherjee just completes the magic of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Shah Rukh and Kajol makes crying looks very easy eventhough they are being paid to do so. Personally, aku lagi suka gangingan Shah Rukh and Kajol compared to Shah Rukh and Aishwarya Rai.

Storyline Kuch Kuch Hota Hai simple. Cukup simple. In fact, it’s like a cliché of any Hindustan movie yang kau boleh tengok. But again, what makes the movie great was because of Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol & Rani Mukherje. Ketepikan ketidak-logikan Kuch Kuch Hota Hai bila si Arjun sanggup lagik satukan Rahul & Anjali pada hari perkahwinannya. Alah, kalau nak dikira, hampir kesemua filem Hindustan tu tak logic.

Tapi itu lah ingridient yang pengarah filem Hindustan gunakan and easily to say, it still works until this day. That is what making Hindustan movies successful. Giler! Sampaikan bertumbuk pun dah macam bunyi light saber.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai manages to catches everyone’s heart because it has what it takes to capture the right chord in everyone’s heart. It’s a compelling film about love & friendship. Aku takde lah melalak sampai nak banjir but I was touched. Touch to the point my eyes was dripping eventhough no tears was shed. Hahahaha… emo lah pulak.

Frankly speaking, selepas Devdas, aku dah tak tertarik langsung dengan filem Hindustan. Datanglah heroin seksi dengan damn big boobs ataupun hero macho macam mana pun, aku still stick to the old school. Filem Hindustan sekarang macam dah takde tarikan langsung. Mak aku pun dah kurang tengok filem Hindustan sekarang. Susah nak cari filem Hindustan yang bagus sekarang ni. Cuma bila selak-selak surat khabar, ada jugak aku terbaca pasal filem Black.Ya, aku masih belum tengok Black, which is critically-acclaimed as one hell of a good movie. So, you tell me if it is good or not. Yang aku tau, Black menggabungkan Amitabh Bachan & Rani Mukherjee.

Lastly, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is a worthy film to watch kalau kau nak tengok filem Hindustan yang bagus. A class act by Shah Rukh and Kajol

Aku Kasi : **** / *****
