KISAH MUKHSIN & ORKED

Orked : Hello
Mukhsin : Hello

Orked : How do you do?
Orked : How do you do?

Orked : You look very nice today
Mukhsin : You looks very nice today

Orked : Takde s… You look very nice today
Mukhsin : You look very nice today

Orked : Very nice
Mukhsin : Very Nice

Mukhsin seorang budak kampung. Dia seorang SURVIVOR.

Mukhsin sayangkan Orked.

Mungkin keterlaluan sikit kalau aku cakap Mukhsin pencinta yang agung. Alah! cinta budak berumur 12 & 10 tahun. Cinta bukannya penyelesaian matematik, algebra ataupun logaritma. Ia terlalu kompleks nak disebut satu per satu. Hmmm....!

Cukup lah kot aku bagi spoiler pasal synopsis filem Mukhsin. Kalau korang baca entry aku kali ni, aku rasa korang dah boleh faham semua pasal Mukhsin.

Lakonan

Syafie as Mukhsin is outstanding as a newcomer. He has that kampong boy charm yang menarik. He has talent, no doubt about that. Cuma perlu dipolish lebih sikit. Trust me, kalau kena gayanya, dia boleh cemerlang sikit masa lagi.

Aku sedikit kecewa dengan lakonan Aryana. Entah! The only thing that came to my mind was “I want more from her”. Tapi itu lah masalah aku, aku tak pernah puas when it comes to those siblings.

Aleya? Aleya lebih cheeky, fun and adorable. Maybe she is too young to be Mak Inom tapi she carried the character well Same goes to Irwan Iskandar. Irwan Iskandar memang perfect as Pak Atan. Selamba, blur, blobbish but fun. Aku tak pernah tengok satu kali pun watak Pak Atan ni serious. Kalau tiap kali ada Pak Atan, aku mesti gelak besar. Kelakar… memang kelakar.

Adibah Noor tak berubah dalam Sepet, Gubra ataupun Mukhsin. Which was fine by me.

Mukhsin has a complete set of family. The cast was complimenting each other in everyway.

Sebab apa? (Sekali lagi aku cilok dari blog Yasmin Ahmad). Yasmin Ahmad cakap, “am optimistic and sentimental to the point of being annoying, especially to people who think that being cynical and cold is cool.”. So, I don’t think that Yasmin Ahmad is trying to criticize anybody. Ala, itu pendapat aku aje. Kalau salah, tolong lah jolokkan. Heheheheh…..

Mungkin yang paling menarik dalam Mukhsin is kenyataan “si kucing pencemar budaya” itu merupakan sekadar lawak sinis kepada you know who?

Ehhh… dah melalut pulak aku merepek. Let’s get back to the topic. Kenapa aku kata filem ni kuat budaya Melayunya?

2. Poligami. Mungkin isu ni sedikit taboo kalau nak diceritakan. Yelah, sebab setiap orang ada pandangan berbeza pasal benda ni. Tapi it’s becoming more recurrent that si suami meninggalkan isteri pertama dia sebab dah ada awek kat belakang marriage dia.

3. Budak-budak kan suka main masak-masak and kahwin-kahwin dulu. Masa tu pun, aku masih buta lagi computer game ni semua. Game arked pun takde lagi masa tu. So, kira merasa jugak lah aku main permainan-permainan tradisional ni

Galah Panjang atau in Johor (the place where I grew up), diorang panggil belonaca (kalau tak silap aku lah).

5. Rasanya dah jadi adat lah kan? Jiran tetangga dok pinjam gula, garam kat jiran sebelah, Dok jadi ahli mesyuarat tingkap sambil-sambil tu. Takde salahnye pun benda ni bagi aku.

6. Lagi satu lagi budaya Melayu kita. Kalau dah ambik barang secara berhutang tu, memang liat sikit nak bayar. Bukan tak bayar, tapi liat nak bayar. Kadang-kadang tu lewat seminggu, kadang-kadang tu lewat sebulan. Silap-silap, sampai kena tarik lah. Alah, perkara normal lah tu.

Walaupun tak semua, mungkin satu dua benda, pasti terkena batang hidung sendiri kan?

Aku masuk dalam panggung, I totally blank myself from Sharifah Amani’s Orked, Ida Nerina’s Mak Inom dan Harith Iskandar’s. Sebab apa? Aku nak tengok Mukhsin as a different part of the Orked’s trilogy.

Banyak sebab kenapa aku suka dengan Mukhsin. Mungkin jalan cerita Mukhsin slow, tapi bagi aku walaupun slow, ia cukup menyenangkan. Slow tapi tak lembab. Slow tapi enjoyably simple. Macam tu lah cerita Yasmin Ahmad.

SIMPLE. Simple but it’s filled with substance and its rich with emotion. Simple because it brings us back to a place where we one were. Simple but it is full of memories yang any of us can relate to. Simple; but yet deep with sentiment of love.

Inilah kelebihan Yasmin Ahmad. Personally for me, her film isn’t about trying to hard but it’s all about the simplicity of everything. Her film dooesn’t require us to think hard. She only ask us to sit back and feel the movie. That is what I did. Aku tak fikir apa-apa pun semasa menonton filem ni. Aku just duduk dekat sead E06, Hall 5 kat GSC Midvalley, pastu aku just enjoy and feel the movie. And I did feel and enjoy the movie. It touched me and it moved me. It didn’t make me cry though. It was touching enough to make understand Mukhsin’s feeling that time.

Mukhsin’s location is very soothing. Kalau salah, please betulkan.). I love the serenity and tranquility of the trees, paddy field and kampong site. Sangat menenangkan.

Mungkin Sepet ataupun Gubra tak kuat nafsu Melayunya. Tapi, Mukhsin kuat nafsu melayunya. Main galah panjang, main laying-layang, berbasikal menyusuri kampung & panjat-panjat pokok.

For me, this is Yasmin Ahmad’s best work so far. kalau nak dibandingkan Sepet, Gubra and Mukhsin, aku pilih Mukhsin atas banyak sebab yang aku dah ceritakan kat atas.

The ending couldn’t be much more better than what Yasmin have served us with. But, let’s not go into that sebab it’s a totally different thing all together.

All in all, Mukhsin adalah satu filem yang cukup indah isi nya dah mudah pengertiannya. Macam yang aku pernah cakap dulu, it’s a movie that anyone of us can relate to. Aku sendiri pun pernah main layang-layang, main galah panjang

Korang pergi menonton wayang, just sit back, relax and enjoy the movie. Don’t think at all just Feel!

p/s : Oh ye, yang buat aku rasa lebih berbunga, masa tengah tunggu tayangan bermula, akun toleh kanan dan aku terperasab a Chinese couple sitting and watching Mukhsin. What a rewarding moment! Well, at least for Yasmin Ahmad it is. :)

KISAH AKU

Kisah kat bawah ni kira macam Confession on a Dance Floor lah nie. Macam kenyataan terbuka pasal diri aku yang dengan selamba badaknya kasi tau semua orang pasal kisah silam aku. Hehehehhe…

Aku tak pernah bercinta. Yes! Ini pengakuan ikhlas aku. Memang aku takde that special someone in my heart before and at present. Aku memang tak pernah serius bercinta sebelum ni. Kenapa? Sebab aku ni penakut! Aku takut bab cinta ni. Aku takut gagal and I am not someone who takes defeat easily. Tapi, aku pernah rasa ingin bercinta, mencintai dan dicintai. Aku pernah rasa menyayangi seseorang. Aku pernah suka pada seseorang walaupun aku tak pernah betul-betul bercinta.

Aku tak buta perasaan tu. NO! Perit, kecewa, sedih, merajuk! Itu semua lah!

Aku pernah hilang ramai sangat that someone to somebody else. Bayangkan, orang tu ada depan mata. Tunggu aku buat that move to say it out loud. Tapi disebabkan aku ni pengecut, bodoh (that came out from her mouth!), takde la aku make to move to say it. Hahahha… to make things worse, I lost to my own friends. Bukan sekali jadi macam ni. Kalau ikut perkiraaan aku, rasanya dalam 3 kali benda ni jadi kat aku. Sheesh! Kata orang, third time is a charm? Now I have doubt about that! Hahahha….

Aku pernah rasa mencintai seseorang tu dalam diam. Tapi aku takde dan takkan make that move sebab itu bini orang wooo!! Tak bleh.. tak bleh… dosa… so, lets not go into details about that, okay?

Aku pernah rasa di perhatikan dalam diam. Okay, this is creepy.

Berat tu memang berat beb. Kadang-kadang tu rasa cemburu tu memang membuak-buak dalam hati ni kalau tengok dia mesra dengan orang lain. Tapi I have to accept the fact that we are not destine to be lovers (for now maybe. In the future, kita tak tau lah kan). You know what the feeling is like to be sitting in front of that someone, but knowing that you will never be that someone special. It hurts, damn it.

Mungkin sebab tu sekarang hati aku dah keras untuk cinta. Bukan aku tak open diri aku untuk benda tu semua but maybe its because of all those things. Aku tak sedia lagi untuk tu semua.

Aku tak tau macam mana perasaannya bila disayangi and dicintai, aku cuma macam mana rasanya nak menyayangi dan nak mencintai seseorang. Let me tell you one thing, the feeling ain’t that nice. Entah lah! Mungkin aku belum ditakdirkan untuk bercintan-cintun kot. Hehehehhe....

p/s 2 : Habis dah review aku yang panjang lebar ni. Aku kalau review and cerita pasal filem Yasmin Ahmad, memang panjang. Tapi takde la sepanjang dan sedetail Ajami Hashim. har har har!!! So, what's next after this? AF? Hmmm.. maybe.. tunggu aje lah!

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998)

Cast:
Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Rani Mukherjee, Salman Khan, Farida Jalal, Anupan Kher, Johnny Lever, Reema Lagoo, Archana Puran Singh, Sana Saeed

Director : Karan Johar

Sinopsis:

It's about college student Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan) and his best friend, Anjali (Kajol), always teasing each other and pulling each other's legs.Theirs is a firm friendship that endures all manners of minor friendship mishaps. After a while, Anjali thinks she's in love with Rahul. Before she can open up her heart to him, he openly declares his love for the principal's daughter, Tina (Rani Mukerji).

Tina is everything Anjali is not. She's a classy lady, sophisticated and utterly charming and frightfully pretty. With Tina, Rahul finds an irresistible sexual attraction. With Anjali, it's more like male bonding.

In time, Tina returns Rahul's feelings towards her and they married. However, Tina died while delivering her first child, who was named Anjali (Sana Saeed). Before she died, Tina wrote eight letters to her infant. Each to be opened on her birthday in the subsequent years.

On her eighth birthday, her late mother's last letter told her that her father actually had deep feelings for the original Anjali. Her final request was for her daughter to bring Rahul and Anjali together because she believed that they would be good for each other.
However, since his wife's death, Rahul plunged deeply into his work and forget about everything else. At the same time, the other Anjali has been betrothed to another man (Salman Khan).

A chance meeting takes place between Rahul and Anjali. Sparks fly. The chemistry is still there, except that this time the electricity between the two old friends is much stronger.

The more mature Anjali is now no longer the tomboy she was. Her hair has grown and she wears sarees. Rahul battles those strange feelings surging in his heart and soul. He tries to resist but it is futile. It is afterall the tsunami of emotions.

Aku kata :

Okay, this is something outside the norm yang aku biasa buat. I just had to do it. Mungkin agak pelik sikit kot for me to review one of the most highly acclaimed Hindistan movie. Lebih pelik lagi sebab aku memang tak pernah review ataupun cerita pasal filem Hindustan movie.

But Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is an exception. Because it is a truly great movie. Mungkin aku orang yang kesepuluh ribu yang buat review pasal Kuch Kuch Hota Hai but what the heck! Ini blog aku, suka hati aku lah! Hehehehe…

Well, I am not really a big fan of Hindustan movie but my mother is. Well, at least she was before John Abraham, Bipasha Basu, Priyanka Chopra, Dino Morea, Amrita Arora (sekadar menyebut beberapa nama.). Kalau dulu, memang my mother kipas-susah-mati filem-filem Hindustan. Sampai suruhkan aku beli setiap VCD lakonan Shah Rukh dgn Kajol. Aku banyak dipengaruhi oleh mak aku yang memang cukup hantu bab filem-filem Hindustan ni.

Filem macam Bobby, Mera Naam Joker, Aag Gale Lag Ja, Sangam memang some of the most memorable movies of all time. Dalam benda ni, me and my mother shares the same sentiment. Filem Hindustan sekarang isn’t just as good as those days. In fact, it’s nothing more macam a display of beautiful and handsome face, big boobs, revealing costumes and an attempt for erotic scenes.

Anyway, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is Karan Johar’s first film directory and for a first timer, I can tell that he made the movie a hit around the region. Senang cakap it’s a film that brings tsunami of feelings and emotions.

Yang paling menarik dalam Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, personally for me, would be the songs featured in the movie. Klasik giler! Kalau dah my colleague yang berbangsa Cina pun boleh hum lagu Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and watched it like 7 times (according to her lah!), so, my conclusion would be it is accepted by everyone.

Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan has that ultra strong on-screen chemistry. Very very strong indeed. They both completes each other and their persona is quite strong. And Rani Mukherjee just completes the magic of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Shah Rukh and Kajol makes crying looks very easy eventhough they are being paid to do so. Personally, aku lagi suka gangingan Shah Rukh and Kajol compared to Shah Rukh and Aishwarya Rai.

Storyline Kuch Kuch Hota Hai simple. Cukup simple. In fact, it’s like a cliché of any Hindustan movie yang kau boleh tengok. But again, what makes the movie great was because of Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol & Rani Mukherje. Ketepikan ketidak-logikan Kuch Kuch Hota Hai bila si Arjun sanggup lagik satukan Rahul & Anjali pada hari perkahwinannya. Alah, kalau nak dikira, hampir kesemua filem Hindustan tu tak logic.

Tapi itu lah ingridient yang pengarah filem Hindustan gunakan and easily to say, it still works until this day. That is what making Hindustan movies successful. Giler! Sampaikan bertumbuk pun dah macam bunyi light saber.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai manages to catches everyone’s heart because it has what it takes to capture the right chord in everyone’s heart. It’s a compelling film about love & friendship. Aku takde lah melalak sampai nak banjir but I was touched. Touch to the point my eyes was dripping eventhough no tears was shed. Hahahaha… emo lah pulak.

Frankly speaking, selepas Devdas, aku dah tak tertarik langsung dengan filem Hindustan. Datanglah heroin seksi dengan damn big boobs ataupun hero macho macam mana pun, aku still stick to the old school. Filem Hindustan sekarang macam dah takde tarikan langsung. Mak aku pun dah kurang tengok filem Hindustan sekarang. Susah nak cari filem Hindustan yang bagus sekarang ni. Cuma bila selak-selak surat khabar, ada jugak aku terbaca pasal filem Black.Ya, aku masih belum tengok Black, which is critically-acclaimed as one hell of a good movie. So, you tell me if it is good or not. Yang aku tau, Black menggabungkan Amitabh Bachan & Rani Mukherjee.

Lastly, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is a worthy film to watch kalau kau nak tengok filem Hindustan yang bagus. A class act by Shah Rukh and Kajol

Aku Kasi : **** / *****

Norbit (2007)

Cast

Eddie Murphy - Norbit/Rasputia/Mr. Wong
Thandie Newton - Kate Thomas
Cuba Gooding, Jr. - Deion Hughes
Terry Crews - Big Black Jack
Clifton Powell - Earl
Lester "Rasta" Speight - Blue
Eddie Griffin - Pope Sweet Jesus
Katt Williams - Lord Have Mercy
Marlon Wayans - Buster

Sinopsis:

Norbit (Eddie Murphy) is an African-American male who was abandoned as a baby on the doorstep of a Chinese restaurant, the Golden Wonton, owned by Mr. Wong (Eddie Murphy). The restaurant doubles as an orphanage, where Norbit was raised. During elementary school, Norbit was saved from two bullies by a mean child, Rasputia (Eddie Murphy), who later became his girlfriend.

As an adult, he is forced to marry Rasputia by her three imposing older brothers: Big Black Jack (Terry Crews), Earl (Clifton Powell), and Blue (Lester "Rasta" Speight). A dilemma occurs when Kate (Thandie Newton), Norbit's crush from childhood, returns to town, and Norbit catches Rasputia cheating with a "powertap" workout instructor (Marlon Wayans). Norbit meets Kate for lunch hoping to rekindle their childhood romance, but she introduces him to her fiance Deion (Cuba Gooding).

Meanwhile, Rasputia's brothers (who own and operate Latimore construction) want to purchase the Golden Wonton as the building is zoned as commercial and has a liquor license. Mr. Wong decides to sell the orphanage to Kate, so the Latimore brothers enlist Kate's fiance to get her to unknowingly sign the liquor license transfer by using Norbit. Kate finds out that Norbit had her sign this document and confronts him, and Norbit yells at her to leave him alone forever.

What Kate does not realize is that Rasputia threatened to physically harm Kate if Norbit doesn't force her away. Kate agrees to marry her fiance the next day, when Norbit receives a background check on Deion detailing his criminal past (and multiple wives and children). Norbit breaks up the wedding and confronts the Latimore brothers at the church, much to Kate's delight and they both get married under the trees with Mr. Wong and the orphans attending.

Aku kata :

Kalau korang nak pecah perut gelak sampai terguling-guling, aku memang highly recommend cerita ni. Sampaikan orang belakang aku tu gelak punya kuat, orang yang the same row with me pun blah. Aku tak tau lah blah sebab ada hal ataupun sebab tak tahan dengar orang belakang tu gelak.

Actually, aku ni susah nak gelak kalau tengok filem comedy yang bukan-bukan. Bukannya aku takde sense of humour, tapi aku tak nak lah setakat tengok lawak komedi yang memperbodohkan penonton, lawak slapstik, lawak bodoh, lawak memalukan diri sendiri ataupun lawak berbaur perkauman. Masa orang lain gelak tengok

I am giving it an exception sebab citer ni best. Bukan aku nak exaggerate lebih-lebih tapi aku memang terhibur giler babeng dengan movie ni.

Dari segi penceritaan agak simple aje. Dah nama pun cerita lawak, takkan nak make it too complicated macam Da Vinci Code ataupun too musical macam Chicago kan? It's a straightforward story with a simple plot. Senang nak faham.

Dalam movie ni, Eddie Murphy is acting as three different characters. First is Norbit himself, then as Rasputia, and lastly as Mr Wong. This will be the sixth film in which he has played multiple roles; the others are Coming to America, Vampire in Brooklyn, The Nutty Professor, Nutty Professor II: The Klumps, and Bowfinger. For all those movies that he has to do multiple role, it was equally entertaining. For me personally. The Nutty Professor wasn't as entertaining as Coming to America or Norbit.

Mungkin stail multiple role tu dah agak basi for Eddie Murphy, tapi as long as it is effective, what the heck? Dah memang Eddie Murphy is well known for his ability to multiple role. And with Norbit, Rasputia and Mr Wong, personally aku rasa he has done an excellent job. Eddie Murphy himself have proved that he is a multi-talented actor.

All in all, Norbit is a fun and entertaining movie to watch. It tickled me to the bone and I think it's going to do just the same to you.

Aku kasi : *** 1/2 / *****

P/s : nanti lah aku edit balik.

Bla… bla… bla… Johnny pulak dah besar and he is still a stunt driver. :Johnny sekarang dibela oleh Mephistopheles. Walaupun dia kemalangan ataupun stunt act dia tak menjadi, dia tetap akan selamat. Thanks to Mephistopheles. For some time, Mephistopheles has spared him from fulfilling his duties.

When he doing his act during his father’s anniversary, he bumped into his old flame, Roxanne yang kerja sebagai wartawan yang kena cover cerita dia buat stunt dia. By the time he finished doing his act, which he survived finely, he wanted to get things back like the old days.

Blackheart is a new breed of evil and too bad, he is the son and arch nemesis of Mephistopheles . Black heatt is backed up by The Hidden, a group yang dianggotai oleh Their names are Grissel, Wallow, and Abigor. Blackheart berniat nak mencopet satu perjantian (aku lupa lah nama dia) untuk menghidupkan kembali Kingdom of Hell.

In order to regain his soul back, Mephistopheles ordered him to demolish Blackheart. Mephistopheles kembali dan menukarkan Johnny kepada a demonic monster yang bertujuan to menghapuskan kejahatan. In the day, he will walks his life as a normal person and during the night, he will be turned into a being far from his wild imagination. Semua lagaknya yang dia lakukan adalah sub-concious. Dia hanya akan menjelma as Ghost Rider when evil is near to him. Not just evil, even sinners and wrong-doers yang buat kesalahan kecik pun ada terkena balasan dan hukuman dari si Johnny Blaze aka Ghost Rider ni.

At the same time, Johnny and Roxanne’s love is about to bloom back. What will happened to him? What is the end for him and Roxanne? Siapa Ghost Rider tu sebenarnya? Apa akan jadi pada Blackheart? Kalau korang nak tau tu semua, gi tengok sendiri kat wayang. Aku dah bagi banyak sangat spoiler.

Aku Kata :

Tapi bila aku keluar aje dari panggung, one word came crossed my mind. OVERRATED. It is too over-rated despite the high anticipation around the world. Sayang! Dengan kos production of USD 100 m, aku rasa it such a waste sebab aku tak nampak kat mana perginya tinggi sangat kos untuk filem tu.

Kalau nak cakap dari segi CGInya, nungkin ia belum cukup setanding dengan X-Men ataupun Spiderman. The CGI effect was a little bit flunked. Bukan tak bagus, cuma tak worthy of such films. Aku rasa bukan aku aje, sesiapa yang tengok movie yang dibuat dari komik mesti nak tengok CGI and special effect diorang kan? … kan? Alah, tipu lah kalau korang cakap korang nak tengok sebab nilai estetika movie tu. Ye tak?

Maybe it’s not fair to compare sebab budget Spiderman jauh lagik besar. I am not expecting the effect to be on par but if it could even come close to 70% pun aku dah cukup puas hati. But sorry to say, CGI effectnya macam biasa aje. Not too say that it was cheesy but it was just average.

Masalah aku dengan filem-filem macam ni is that aku letakkan high expectation. Aku letakkan expectation yang tinggi kat movie yang diadaptasi from Marvel Comics ni. Setakat ni, aku tak kecewa dengan Fantastic Four, Spider-Man & X-Men. Tapi ada jugak Marvel Comics turned movie yang aku rasa hampa sikit lepas menontonnya macam Hulk & Punisher. Ada movie lain yang still dalam filming and production process macam Iron-Man. So, kena keep the fingers crossed lah kalau nak tengok hasilnya macam mana.

Tapi Ghost Rider ni macam lacks of something. It lacks the element of adventure and thrill of a superhero movies. Aku rasa villain Ghost Rider lagik cool dari the main character itself. Aku selalu peratikan benda ni terjadi. Quite too often. Sepatutnya diorang focus pada hero. Yelah, he is the main attraction of the movie.

Selalunya, kalau mana-mana filem komik superhero yang diadaptasi ke filem, mestilah ada elemen adventure, action packed sequence, good story telling, good acting & logic storyline.Well, this movie nearly has the action packed sequence, and logic storyline. (aku kata logic sebab memang logic cerita superhero tu dah macam ni.)But it lacks of adventure and thrill and it has no good story telling. Not like when you are watching Spiderman and X-men. Macam ko dah glued on to the seats.

Kalau nak cakap pasal lakonan, yeah, Cage has the charm and poise on the silver screen but this time it didn’t impress me that much. Again, aku lagi tertarik pada si bedebah Blackheart tu. Eva Mendez was just okay, watak Roxanne tu sendiri yang membuatkan watak tu limited to that type of character. Peter Fonda and Wes Bentley was cool as the villain.

Okay lah! The skeleton, hand and feet on fire memang lah nampak kool, tapi kalau dah setakat itu aje, aku rasa muak lah. Takde feature lain yang betul-betul menarik tentang the rider himself. Yang best aku tengok pun is his wheel. Yelah, dah nama pun Ghost Rider, mesti lah bawak bike yang cool. Cuba korang bayangkan kalau dia bawak motor Kriss atau Jipang tu dok kejar hantu-hantu tu. Maunye dia kena berenti kat stesen minyak sebab takut habis masa on the way there.

Lagi satu yang aku cukup tertarik and that drives me to watch it is because of Eva Mendes herself. That lady is damn hot babe. Mungkin this is the standard yet enjoyable movie but that’s about all that I can say about it. There’s nothing more than I can say about it. It’s not that bad but it’s not that good. Just average. Despite all that, aku enjoy tengok movie ni

Aku kasi ** ½ / *****

p/s : Ni pun aku dengar diorang tengah nak continue Ghost Rider sequel. Lets just hope that the next time around. It will be much better than this one.

p/p/s : Aku rasa poster dia very cool!

Prolog:

First of all, lama giler movie ni. Almost 140 minutes. Walaupun filem ni hanya akan ditayangkan kepada umum on the 18th of Februariy, I was given the chance to watched it early. Aku pergi ke Malam Gala Premiere Puaka Tebing Biru atas jemputan Ajami Hashim @ Bicara Skrip, member blog yang gila kuasa menceceh pasal penulisan skrip drama dan filem yang aku totally tak faham langsung.

Frankly speaking, I felt a little bit awkward being there sebab I am used to being in the limelight and in the centre of a lot of so called infamous and famous-wannabes. Tapi memandangkan Ajami dah mengajak, so aku pun gasakkan lah pergi jugak. Bukannya aku tak enjoy tengok movie (especially when it's free) but being a first timer to that kind of thing, so, the feeling was there. But thanks a bunch to Ajami Hashim sebab sudi invite aku untuk ke Malam Gala Premier Puaka Tebing Biru. Next time, kalau ada lagi, sudi-sudi lah jemput aku ye!

Moving on! In simple words, Puaka Tebing Biru is a story about devotion and love, towards friendship, towards lovers, towards motherhood, and towards sisters. Tu dia, synopsis punya la panjang sedangkan ceritanya simple aje.

Ada satu benda yang aku nakkan kepastian. Who really is the main actress for this movie? Bab ni aku konfius sikit. Is it Umie Aida or Nasha Aziz? Kalau Umie Aida, then I can say that Nasha Aziz yang berjaya untuk over-shadow Umie Aida from many ways in the movie. Kalau Nasha Aziz is the main actress, then kudos to her sebab this is her best performance so far.

Sama Tak Serupa (Bukan itu tajuk filem, haaaa!!!!)

My first thing that came through my mind when I stepped out of the cinema was this " Macam Nang Nak lah". Aku tak tau dari mana aku dapat but this was the feeling that I got after watching Puaka Tebing Biru. Correct me if I am wrong but isn't that what Puaka Tebing Biru is all about?

Maybe it's not fair for me to compare. Aku tak mengatakan yang filem Puaka Tebing Biru tu macam Nang Nak tapi in a certain perspective, aku nampak similarity antara dua filem tu.

Bukannya kita takde hantu versi Malaysia macam Toyol, Hantu Raya & Pochong. Tapi kita asyik kena suap dengan mistikus-mistikus hantu pompuan. Kenapa? Hantu lelaki tak menakutkan ke? Kacang Hantu versi Malaysia yang berjantinakan lelaki lagi horror lah beb!

Agghh.. ape yang aku merepekkan ni? Macam hebat sangat aje nak buat andaian sendiri ye? Sorry lah kalau aku salah! Itu aje.

Storyboard

Apa-apa pun, penceritaan filem di buat dalam bentuk play back, forward, and present. Kira macam cerita dalam cerita. Basically it will complete the movie and makes the viewers understand the movie a lot more. Bak kata Ajami, it's an ensemble filem. Ia disampaikan dalam cerita yang berbeza. Dalam cerita, disampaikan cerita yang lain. Contohnya? Kisah Ayu & Mohsin, Kisah Ayu, Mohsin & Ika, Kisah Ara & Ika. Semuanya berbeza tapi sangat berkait rapat.Ia dibuat tak berterabur and mula-mula tu, ia nampak sikit complicated jugak nak difahami the flow of the movie, tapi lepas adanya cerita-cerita berbeza yang diselang-selikan, barulah aku faham itu dan ini. Trust me, you won't remain clueless after you've watched the movie.

Macam saja-saja aje ditinggalkan kat situ.

Black & White

Puaka Tebing Biru ada banyak elemen of suprise, tapi it's not enough to take me of my seat. The other's seat, maybe but my seat, no!. Ya, memang banyak elemen terkejut macam masa Anita datang menerjah Ratna dirumah & hantu kecik and hantu besar yang selalu sangat dok kejar and hantui Ratna. Tapi to really scare the hell out of me, no. Mungkin bagi orang lain, filem ni dah cukup seram. So, kalau korang nak tau, you have to catch it at the cinema on the 18th.

Puaka Tebing Biru memilih Pulau Pangkor as the main location of the move.

I don't know if Umie was purposely make-up that way or what. But it wasn't convincing enough to look like a ghost.

Satu perkara lagi, sape yang pegi design posteruntuk Puaka Tebing Biru ni ye? The moment I saw the poster, i told myself "Ini macam poster Zaman tahun 60'an & 70'an aje."

Mungkin as Ayu she is okay but when she is the ghost of "Ayu", I didn't find it that convincing. Umie Aida is one of the talented actress around. But I am just a little bit disappointed with "Ayu" this time around. It's okay!

Nasha pernah berlakon dengan baik dalam Trauma tapi dalam filem-filem dia macam Cinta Luar Biasa dan Laila Isabela, it was just too off for me. As a women who is traumatized and „delusioned" by shadows that haunted her,I think that she carries Ratna very well.

Fahrin : There's still a lot for Fahrin to learn to become a good actor. He can act, but that's about all of it. There's nothing special yang dia featurekan melalui watak Mohsin. Emosi dan expression yang dia tunjukkan nampak goyah and not that strong. Tapi masa adegan berahi dia dengan Umie Aida, bukan main menunjukkan ekspressi muka yang memang real. Cis! Take your hands away from her! Hahaha...

Wan Maimunah : Aku respek habis dengan makcik ni. Kalau nak kasi watak-watak sedih yang kena menangis sampai banjir, ko serahkan aje kat dia. Memang dah jadi makanan dia kalau dapat watak-watak macam tu.

Sharifah Amani : Cheeky, witty, mischevious, fun but that's about it. I see that in Sepet, Gubra, Cinta and again in Puaka Tebing Biru. Which was fine, I guess. But I really want to see more of her taking a more stronger and heavier character this this. Aku suka scene bila dia cuba nak takutkan kakak dia tu. I think she has what it takes to be the next top hantu in movies.

Corrine Adrienne : Disebabkan watak Anita hanya muncul pada awal cerita sahaja, so there's nothing much to say about. Anita is Ratna's housemate and bestfriend. She's the person who is responsible to persuade Ratna to go back to her hometown and confront what Ratna is going through.

Finale

Jangan kata aku kondem filem ni. Tidak! Aku cuma pointkan apa yang aku rasa aje. No harm in that right? It's just that, for me, it has the element of surprise but it lacks the elements of horror.

Tapi kalau korang nak tengok kemajuan dalam lakonan Nasha Aziz, I strongly suggest that you watched the movie. This time, I am giving extra credit to Nasha Aziz because this is one of her best performance in a movie or drama. This is the first work of Osman Ali going mainstream after being an indie firm director for some time. Aku cuma pernah tengok Malaikat Di Jendela (Ning Baizura), Toll Gate Girl, Surat Untuk Bulan, Atas Nama Cinta but I've never watched Bukak Api. Teringin jugak nak tengok! Anyway, a good job for a first timer. Congrats and a job well done to Osman Ali.

Okay lah!

Despite my review, it is still a good movie and worthy of your money and time queuing up buying the tickets and watching Osman Ali's first baby.

Rate aku : *** / *****

p/s : Aiyo!

Cara dia treat Ratna tu, lain macam lah. Meremang bulu tengok aku tengok. Kasih saying yang merangsangkan. Hehehe..

Death Note (2006)

or is it 2007? Which one is it huh?

Cast : Ken'ichi Matsuyama, Tatsuya Fujiwara, Takeshi Kaga, Erika Toda, Shin Shimizu

Director : Shusuke Kaneko

Aku belum berkesempatan nak tengok Death Note 1 but Death Note 2 really stands on it’s own. Kata orang lah kan. Bagi aku, ada advantagenya kalau nak tengok filem sequel macam ni tapi kalau dah this movie can stand on it’s own, so kalau korang tak tengok pun tak apa lah jugak. So, pada sesiapa yang tak tengok Death Note 1 (macam aku!), takde apa yang perlu nak dirisaukan sebab ko akan faham apa itu Nota Kematian, Tuhan Kematian dan apa sebenarnya Death Note is all about.

Death Note bukan cerita seram @ hantu yang menakutkan tapi satu cerita yang bijak. Bijak, dari segi, it allows the viewers to think and to play along the movie very well.

Kalau sesiapa yang dah tengok Death Note 1, aku rasa tak perlu pun baca perenggan ni tapi for the benefit of those who haven’t seen the movie, here’s what Death Note is all about. Death Note is a notebook yang membolehkan “tuan”nya untuk membunuh sesiapa aje dengan menulis nama kat dalan buku nota tu.

Light Yagami (Tatsuya Fujiwara) picked up the first Death Note in the first movie. So, watak dia agak crucial dalam movie ni. He is a law students who started a killing-rampage who uses the notebook to assume the identity of Kira, a god who punishes criminals with sudden and mysterious death. It was hard catching his emotions but I think this is important as he is the owner of the first Death Note. His smiles might be a killing one and his expressions might be contradicted. Creepy huh?

Adoi! Kalau dah jatuh ke tangan perempuan, memang parah lah dibuatnya. This lady, Misa went on the same killing rampage just so that she can meet up with Kira. Dalam movie ni, Light telah bergabung tenaga dengan L, his arch nemesis (and a weirdo mysterious detective) with the intention just to kill him. Eventhough he joined forces with L, he played his cards well in hiding his identity as Kira. Both are insanely intelligent with L a little bit weirdo. He has strange mannerism and idiosyncrasy. He lacks in building human relationships and showing emotions but he is blessed with a criminal-like mind that allows him to think like one.

What follows is a plot and planning by both rival geniuses. How Kira uses the new Kira to eliminate the enemy and kepentingan diri sendiri, L tries to prove that Light and Misa are really the owner of Death Note and how Light tried to turn the table around to outsmart L’s wit.

Macam yang aku katakana tadi, this is an intelligent movie but maybe what bothers me the most is that this movie is a little bit slow.

Aku paling suka dengan lagu Red Hot Chilli Peppers yang difeaturekan didalam movie ni. One more thing, the on-screen chemistry between the 2 heroes was flawless and superb. Sampaikan it makes Misa invisible. I read somewhere that it was fun to see them share more scenes this time around, secretly plotting against each other. Hmmm.. aku kena tengok the first installmentlah kalau macam ni.

The twist in the story was good. The plot, even though slow, but it was good. The intelligence of the movie also lies in script-wise selain dari premis-premis penggambaran yang aku anggap kool. Cuma satu perkara je, aku tak berapa suka momentum penghujung cerita ni yang aku rasa sikit lembab. Eventhough the pace of the movie was a little bit fast in the beginning of the movie, 75% after the movie started; it all begins to be slow. Mungkin ia dibuat sedemikian to allow both Light to place the card on the table first and then followed by L to show hands.

Is killing using the Death Note was worthy enough to ensure a better society commandable? Personally for me it’s not. There’s no highway in life and fighting crime takes more than all that. If things were as easy as that, then what are the purpose human revolutions, renaissance of time, human-race and civilization itself? Nobody should be an idealist and think that the world should be an ideal place. If that wasn’t the case, the police would be out of job by now. It might sound ridiculous but this is what the movie is all about.

All in all, it is an interesting movie to watch and it’s really worth checking out.

Aku kasi **** / *****

Coming Soon

Last year left us with lots of great movies macam Pirates of the Carribean, Cinta (Nazim Masnawi, sorry bro!), Casino Royale, X-Men 3 : The Last Stand, The Departed and a lot more. Selain dari tu, ada jugak not so good and great movies macam Da Vinci Code, Little Man, Diva Popular & Nana Tanjung. We are nonetheless, left with those movies which have some good and bad elements like Cicakman, Superman, Poseidon. Just to say a few name because I’ve forgotten how many movies, VCD and DVD that I’ve watched.

I am not good at telling you guys the best 10 movies in 2006 because I don’t set the benchmark on how good or how bad the movies are. All these while, rate aku tu pun, based on selera aku sendiri aje. So, mungkin selera aku dengan selera orang lain berbeza. I might say that the movie is good but to someone else, it might be different. So, I leave your judgement at your hand.

However, this tahun ni, harap-harap more good movies yang will hit our shores and moga poket kita akan lebih terisi so that kita boleh kasi untung sama itu produser pelem, pemilik konsesi panggung dan kawasan-kawasan yang sewaktu dengannya.

So, here are some small preview of what’s coming this year. This list is based on the movie yang aku rasa sesuai dengan seleraku dan ada jugak yang aku pasti akan tengok. This list is not complete yet and there’ll be additions done to it.

SUPERHEROES

Spiderman 3

Spidey returns to the silver screen with more villains at hands. Green Lantern returns with Harry Osborn continuing his father’s legacy to take vengeance on Spiderman. Besides that, he will go head-to-head with Sandman, a villain which can turn his body into sand. The best would be a fight between Spiderman and Venom. Venom, as we all know, is an alien entity which has all of Spidey's power and more!). Peter Parker is also a victim of a love trap where he had to choose between Mary Jane and Gwen Stacy. Sam Raimi is back to direct this third installation of Spiderman. This film is said to be the most expensive ever made (even surpassing Titanic and King Kong). I am betting that this movie will rule supreme at the box office.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
The Fantastic Four learn that they aren't the only super-powered beings in the universe when they square off against the powerful Silver Surfer and the planet-eating Galactus. Silver Surfer is a space faring being who travels throughout the galaxy on a special surfboard in search of suitable worlds for Galactus to devour. One more thing, there's gonna be more of Jessica Alba's hotness. Hopefully this sequel will have more of her undressing. To add things up, there's gonna be a one-to-one fight against Human Torch and Silver Surfer. Woohoo!!!. Oh yeah, Dr Doom will also be making a comeback in the movie.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle

After the defeat of their old arch nemesis, The Shredder, the Turtles have grown apart as a family. Struggling to keep them together, their sensei, Master Splinter, becomes worried when strange things begin to brew in New York City. Tech-industrialist Max Winters goes mad after he was wrongfully fired, and begins amassing an army of ancient monsters. Realizing his plan is succeeding, he is no longer satisfied with vengeance against his ex-employer but now has thirst for world domination.

Not really The Departed

Mark Wahlberg has been talking to MTV News (http://www.mtv.com/) and reveals that much like "Infernal Affairs" had a prequel and sequel, so might "The Departed," with Martin Scorsese already supposedly planning one or more films.

"We may do another one, because it's based on a Hong Kong film ['Infernal Affairs'], and there is a trilogy. So we may do a sequel with a new cast, and a prequel and bring back the rest of the guys," the actor tells the site.

Now, without spoiling the movie, there would most likely have to be a completely different cast for the sequel part of it. Wahlberg reveals that Scorsese has been talking to his old friend Robert De Niro (who was going to play the role Martin Sheen played in "The Departed" but couldn't do it due to scheduling conflicts with "The Good Shepard").

It's hard to say whether there's any concrete plans for this, as Scorsese has never done a sequel to any of his movies and a "Departed 2" and "3" in our minds would just be a cheap way to get another buck. Still, stay tuned for more information if it becomes available.

Pathfinder (2006)

Cast : Karl Urban, Russell Means, Moon Bloodgood, Ralf Moeller

Director : Marcus Nispel

Synopsis :

Two Worlds, One War. The Ultimate Battle Begins

A young Viking boy abandoned by his people during an early raid on the shores of North America, nearly 500 years before the arrival of Columbus. A tribe of American Indians that his kinsmen attempted to destroy adopts the poor, frightened child. At 25, the blond tribesman known as Ghost (Karl Urban) must intervene to protect his people when Viking warriors return to commit barbarous attacks that leave nothing but death and destruction in their wake. The Vikings ride through a shallow creek and are next seen massacring the inhabitants of Ghost's (Karl Urban) village.

At the same time, the tribe leader, known, as the Pathfinder must select a new leader for the tribe. The tribe deserted Ghost, being an outsider, even though he was the right man to replace the Pathfinder. Ghost was also in love with the Pathfinder's daughter.

After seeing his village people died and the leader killed by the Vikings, Ghost decided to take revenge on the death of his "mother". Before the Vikings could kill another tribe, Ghost takes matter in his own hands.

Is Ghost chosen as the Pathfinder? Will he be able to save the tribe from being a victim of the Viking? How will Ghost's love end up? Tengok sendiri itu movie haa!

Aku kata:

The reason why I watched the movie was because I had no other choice. I was standing outside GSC Midvalley one Thursday evening thinking of what to watch. Then, I stumbled upon one poster. I think the poster looks cool. So, what the heck! Aku pun beli lah tiket ni. So, aku masuk dalam panggung without knowing what to expect out of it.

Actually I don't really know how to review the movie. I read somewhere that this was a re-make from a 1987 Oscar nominated Norwegian film. Memandangkan aku tak pernah tengok versi 1987, so, aku tak boleh nak buat comparison between both movie.

The fight between Ghost, the Red Indian and the Viking looked great. It is a known fact that Vikings are known to be a conquerer tribe that is vicious and brute. Eventhough the fighting scene tu takde lah macam The Lord of the Ring, tapi it was just as great. Another thing that I like about the movie was the costumes. The Viking's costume nampak majestic and make-up diorang yang nampak cukup hodoh dan zalim tu.

It was mentioned that no animal was harmed during the production of the film. Filem ni banyak menggunakan extensive green screen technology to make it real. Movie ni difilemkan kat North America eventhough it depict the story of the Red Indian and The Viking's first step foot there. This was 500 years before Columbus even came. What tickles me off is the accent used by the Red Indian. Their English was perfect. In fact, it was too perfect to be used by any Red Indian.

As for the acting, I can't really say much. Cuma satu perkara yang aku perasan pasal hero and heroine Pathfinder. Aku tak nampak on-screen chemistry between the hero and heroine. Both of them didn't seem to have that thing going on and it was pretty dull.

All in all, kalau korang peminat epic filem, this is a good movie yang slow tapi a good action scene.

Aku kasi : ** ½ / *****

The Da Vince Code (2006)

Cast : Tom Hanks, Audrey Tautou, Sir Ian Mckellen, Paul Bettany, Alfred Molina, Jean Reno

Director : Ron Howard

Synopsis :

Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks), a Harvard symbologist in Paris for a lecture when Inspector Fache (Jean Reno) informs him of the murder of museum curator Jacques Sauniere (Jean-Pierre Marielle). This poor man has been shot and will die late at night inside the Louvre; his wounds, although mortal, fortunately leave him time enough to conceal a safe deposit key, strip himself, cover his body with symbols written in his own blood, arrange his body in a pose and within a design by Da Vinci, and write out, also in blood, an encrypted message, a scrambled numerical sequence and a footnote to Sophie Neveu (Audrey Tautou), the pretty French policewoman whom he raised after the death of her parents. Most people are content with a dying word or two; Jacques leaves us with a film treatment.

Sophie warns Robert he is in danger from Fache, and they elude capture in the Louvre and set off on a quest that leads them to the vault of a private bank, to the French villa of Sir Leigh Teabing (Ian McKellen), to the Temple Church in London, to an isolated Templar church in the British countryside, to a hidden crypt and then back to the Louvre again. The police, both French and British, are one step behind them all of this time, but Sophie and Robert are facile, inventive and daring. Also, perhaps, they have God on their side.

This series of chases, discoveries and escapes is intercept with another story, involving an albino named Silas (Paul Bettany), who works under the command of the Teacher through a middleman called Bishop Aringarosa (Alfred Molina). Silas, a mysterious figure at the center of a conspiracy to conceal the location of the Holy Grail, what it really is, and what that implies. The conspiracy involves members of Opus Dei, a society of

If you've read the novels, then you know what happens next but if not, then I would suggest you get the DVD and watch the movie.

Aku Kata :

Okay! It took me a bloody long time to review the movie because I just hated it. Having to read the novel and watching the movie (I re-read the book right before the movie premiers), I think that the mood was spoilt at how bad the movie was. The plot of the book memang intriquing tapi aku teramat lah kecewa dengan hasil kerja tangan Ron Howard untuk filem ni.

All right, any movie that was adapted from a novel should strictly follow the book tapi aku dapat rasakan kejanggalan bila aku tonton filem ni. The first time I watched it, aku tengok tak habis pun sebab aku dah terlampau bosan. The second time, aku cuba juga habiskan tengok movie ni. Phew! What a ride!

Eventhough this film maintain its exotic location (exactly like the book, it still lack of some important thing macam startling revelation and desperate chase scene. Both the book and movie contain accusations against the Catholic Church and its order of Opus Dei, the Holy Grail, the descendants of Jesus, the Knights Templar, and the true story of Mary Magdalene. But hey, the book was fiction. Okay, the plot for both the book and movie are ridiculous tapi bukan ke kebanyakan movie made that way?

I know that Catholics hated the book and all the rubbish that Dan Brown created tormented them Again! It's a fiction! What do you expect? Lagi satu, how can someone say that Dan Brown's novel is preposterous and the movie is preposterously entertaining, when it's not? Aku tak tau lah bagi korang yang pernah tengok movie ni, macam mana pendapat kau orang. Tapi ini pendapat aku.

Mungkin expectation aku untuk tengok Robert Langdon in the silver screen was high but who can blame me? What I expected the movie is going to be was quite anti-climaxed to what was in the book.

Mungkin it wasn't that bad after all kot. I only like the movie because of Silas (Paul Bettany) and Sophie Neveu (Audrey Tautou). They both did an excellent job for the character that they are being paid for.

All I can say, kalau korang belum lagi baca buku tu, korang akan dapat that it's a good movie. Tapi, kalau korang pernah baca buku tu and still belum tengok buku tu. Brace yourself to be disappointed.

American Pie: The Naked Mile (2006)

Cast : John White, Maria Ricossa, Steve Talley, Jake Siegel, Joe Bostick, Ross Thomas, Christopher McDonald,

Director : Joe Nussbaum

Synopsis :

Eric Stifler is a member of the Stifler family who is well known for their legacy of "wilderness".When Eric Stifler realizes that he is the only Stifler family member who is going to graduate from high school as a virgin, he decided to take matter at his own hands. All that he needs to do was to live up to the legacy of the Stifler's family.

Eric has a girlfriend who is also a virgin and having been resisting to make love with him since they got to know each other (kind of pathetic, if you ask me). Eric's 2 buddy have been bugging him about this and Eric is a little bit intimidated knowing that he is going to fail the legacy.

After taking some advice from Jim's father (Jim was one of the cast in the previous American Pie), Eric is ready to take his chances at the annual race at one of his friend's college. The Naked Mile is well known as being the most wild and wackiest weekend. It is where hundreds of students will run naked in one of the craziest college tradition ever.

Having the free-pass weekend given by his girlfriend, he decided that he's gonna join the race and have the best weekend of his life. And the adventure begins! (Aggh!! I don't know what else to say!)

Aku kata :

I always label American Pie as a cult movie. Alternative & offbeat and not the religious group. I would say from all the four American Pie series, this is the worse compared to the 3. I still think that American Pie 3: American Wedding was the best. If I rate this based on the explicitly (in a ruder and nuder way), then this movie will reign no 1.There's no doubt about that. But being a fan of the American Pie, I am a little bit disappointed.

In fact, The Naked Mile is not as funny and entertaining as the rest. I even thought that I was watching my 100th porn movie. Woohoo!! The only thing that is attractive in this movie is the babe. They are hot and sizzling. But sorry! I am not going to show any nude pic scene from the movie because it will go against my principle.

I love nudity (I am a pervert! What do you expect?). But this blog isn't something that I put any nude pics on. Sorry, if you wanna see what I mean, get the DVD and witness it for yourself. As I said, the movie is just fine by me because I love it just for the nude and rude scene. But isn't not as good as the previous 3. As what Ironboard said to me ": Alah! Ni mesti B movie ni!". IB, gua memang setuju dengan lu beb!

P/s : My rate is based on the 5 American Pie series. Not worthy for an American Pie fan but worthy enough for it's revealing scenes.
